Charlie's new room

We got Charlie bunk beds for his new room. He isn't quite ready to sleep in a big boy bed yet, so we've got a crib in there too until he's ready! (I can't even imagine the trouble that sweet boy would get in to if he roamed around at night by himself!)

Kirkland LOVES the top bunk & tells anyone who will listen that the top is his bunk. He asked me yesterday why he wasn't sleeping in there with Charlie. He didn't quite I understand that he's only going to sleep in there when we have company. (Or, have 4 kids!)

My sweet dad painted Charlie's room for us & painted the new playroom downstairs. Me & Geoff, well...painting just isn't our thing!

They keep my pride in check!

Do you ever have those days when you think you just might be mom of the year? Well, Wednesday was that day for me. The day even started out great: I was showered & ready & had a great quiet time before the boys ever woke up. Everyone was happy that day: we played fun games, both boys got along, I made healthy meals that everyone actually ate, we played outside. I mean, I was pretty sure that maybe I should write a book about how great of a mom I was.

Days like that give me a false sense of confidence that maybe I can take 2 hungry kids to the grocery store on Saturday night during dinner time when Geoff is out of town. It started poorly when Kirkland wanted to ride in a regular buggy & Charlie wanted to ride in the one that looked like a car. Then, we stood in the deli line behind a sweet middle aged woman who is obviously battling cancer, and Kirkland points to her hair (which is just barely starting to come back in, and the poor lady is probably proud as can be that it's growing back) & says, "Mom, look...she doesn't have much hair". I, of course, do not look, and just say, "mmm, hmm", and he says louder, "Mom...you are NOT looking. She doesn't have much hair". I am mortified, and decide that I don't really care if we have turkey this week or not. When we check out, I ask Charlie to please give the cashier the box of teddy grahams so that she can ring them up, and he started wailing as if I wanted him to give her a kidney. He couldn't get a grip after that. She even handed them right back, but it didn't matter: the damage had been done. He is now screaming at the top of his lungs. Other cashiers come over and give my boys balloons, lollipops, and even coloring books with crayons. (I had no idea Publix had any of these things!) None of it worked. I am sweating & I'm sure people are willing to pay us to leave. But, there is some issue with a coupon that the lady told me I was qualified for, but she couldn't find anyone to get it, and so we just stood there with a screaming child. Eventually, I was like, forget the free eggs. It just isn't worth it!

We got home & I had no energy to give my children anything but cereal for dinner. And Fruit Loops at that. The ones with the marshmallows. I know....I'm SO not getting Mom of the Year this year!

No filter...

So, we are at the Doctor's office for Kirkland's 4 year well child check. We are the only people in the waiting room with, I assume, a lesbian couple. One woman had VERY short hair. Kirkland & I are sitting about 8 feet away from her when he points & asks, "Is that a woman?". I try to casually say yes without inviting more questions about why she has boy hair, when he busts out with "Why are there 2 womans with 1 baby"? I just answered with, "You want a lollipop?".

In other news, he is in the 75th percentile for weight (41 inches) and between the 25th-50th percentile for weight (37 pounds). Doctor predicts he'll be long & lean. (We think he's going to be built like my dad)

We took Charlie for his 18 month check, and he's over 95th percentile for height (36 inches) & weight (30 pounds). (We do not predict that Charlie will be lean!)

Smart boy!

I asked Kirkland what he wanted to be when he grew up. Then, I named like 10 different professions trying to spark his interest.

After thinking about it, he said, "No, I want to be daddy".

Couldn't have chosen any better!
